SOFA Text Message (SMS) Disclosure

Overview

SOFA (“Students Opportunities Futures App”) sends SMS text messages to users for account-related and event-related notifications. SMS messaging is optional and is enabled only after a user provides explicit consent.

How Users Opt In

Users opt in to receive SMS messages from SOFA through one of the following methods:

During Account Signup
During the SOFA account registration process, users may provide their mobile phone number and explicitly consent to receive SMS messages by selecting an unchecked checkbox that clearly discloses the nature of the messages.

Existing Account Holders
Users who created accounts before SMS functionality was available are shown an in-app prompt allowing them to voluntarily enable SMS notifications by entering their mobile phone number and providing explicit consent.

SMS messages are sent only after consent is provided. Consent is not required to create an account or use the platform.

Consent Disclosure Language

At the time of opt-in, users are presented with following disclosure language:

“By opting in, you agree to receive recurring SMS notifications from SOFA about your account and job shadowing events. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.”

Message Types

SOFA sends transactional and informational messages only, including but not limited to:

  • Account notifications

  • Job shadowing event reminders and updates

  • Event registration confirmations or changes

  • Platform-related alerts

SOFA does not send marketing or promotional SMS messages.

Message Frequency

Message frequency varies based on user activity and event participation.

Opt-Out Instructions

Users may opt out of SMS messages at any time by:

  • Replying STOP to any SMS message, or

  • Disabling SMS notifications within their account settings

After opting out, users will no longer receive SMS messages unless they re-enable SMS and provide consent again.

Message and data rates may apply.
Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Eligibility

SMS notifications are available only to users who provide a valid U.S. mobile phone number and explicitly opt in. SOFA sends messages only to the phone number provided by the user.

Privacy

User phone numbers and messaging preferences are handled in accordance with SOFA’s Privacy Policy.
